Spring is starting to warm. How lucky are some of you that live where the temperatures have been in the 80's? Here we still continue to rain and our top out temperature may make it to 50. It's still too cold to drag out the paint sprayer. When it gets a little warmer, I am looking forward to painting a couple of new pieces for the makeover of my office.
In the meantime I have been pinning like crazy with new ideas and working on small projects. Today I thought would share my new card holder from an old book.
And this one from The Life and Art of Andrea Rodgers

I loved both versions, but I wanted to make one that was a little softer looking, and had a little bling.
This is how I made mine:
Start with an old book, with heavier pages. My local thrift several times a year gives away Reader' Digest Condensed books. I look for ones with pretty covers (for this project you do not need to worry about the cover).
I opened the book, leaving the cover on, and started folding all the pages in half. I did my pages individually for a softer look. While I was folding the pages the spine of the book fell off. No problem, you won't need it.
After all the pages were folded, I then took a straight edge and cut the cover to the edge of the folded pages.
Raiding my stash of ribbon, lace, and buttons, I finally decided on which I wanted to use.
After all the pages were folded, I then took a straight edge and cut the cover to the edge of the folded pages.
The lace I really liked had holes at the top, so I wove an off white seam binding through the holes.
Then start embellishing. This part I learned the hard way...you want to start with the trims that will go over the pages first. Using a glue gun, start attaching your lace. Gluing lace over the top sides immediately firms up the book and makes it sturdier. Then I took more lace and glued it around the edges covering the ends of the lace from the trim that went over the book pages.

Have a beautiful Day!

I have often wondered how people in colder weather get projects done, so difficult. I'm wishing you fabulous weather and a Happy Easter

Those are really pretty, and a unique way to display old photos! I live in Texas, and while it's great to have 80's weather right now, in about a month it will start creeping into the 90's. Growing up in Indiana, I really miss the true change of the seasons as we only have two seasons here, hot and not as hot. Lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your pretty project. Happy Easter!
You did an amazing job with that book of yours Sherrie, love the outcome with that fine lace and embellishments, superb creation! Happy Easter, Ira x
ReplyDeleteYour card holder turned out very nicely. I have never seen these before but I can imagine how much fun it would be to make and decorate them. I hope your weather warm up soon. We have been having unusually warm temperatures. Nice to have you visit my blog. Please come again.-------Shannon
